Staten Island Man Finds Buried Treasure In Neighbor’s Yard

Matthew Emanuel was having some trees replaced in his backyard in Staten Island (N.Y.) last week when he noticed a metal box in the ground. Inside that box was about $52,000 worth of property–including diamonds, gold and soaking wet cash in plastic bags. “I thought we found buried treasure,” Emanuel told The Advance. But then Emanuel noticed a neighbor’s address written on one of the bags. So Emanuel knocked on the neighbor’s door and learned that she’d been robbed in 2011, presumably by a famous local crook known as the Ninja Burglar. Emanuel then returned the neighbor’s treasure to her, at which point he says she was “shaking and hugging” him.
