Welcome to Niki's Baby Blog

Jackson Curtis Has Arrived

Week #22 6/5/09

Jackson Curtis is here!!  He was born on Monday June 1, 2009 at 5:03 pm.  He weighed in at 7 lbs 8 oz and is 21 ½ inches long.  He has the longest fingers and toes that I ever seen!

So here’s the labor story:

I was at the doctor on Friday afternoon and she decided that I needed to be induced because of my high blood pressure.  She was not going to be on call that weekend so we set everything up for me to come in on Sunday night to start on the medicine.  So with that said JC and I left the doctor on Friday afternoon super excited and could not wait for Sunday night to come.  On Saturday we did some last minute errands and I did some laundry and tried to prepare everything for Jackson’s big arrival.

Sunday morning I woke up a little after 7:00am and had thought I had peed my pants.  I didn’t think much about it, went to the bathroom, and went back to bed.  Well, a few minutes later when I turned over I noticed the same feeling and I thought to myself, surely my water has not broken so I got up again and sure enough I was leaking.

After calling the doctor and getting our stuff together we arrived at the hospital at 9:30am where we found out that yes, my water had broken.  At that point in time I had not dilated anymore so they sent me out walking.  They started me on pitocin around 2:00 that afternoon because I still wasn’t making any progress.  Finally on Monday morning I started to dilate.  I made it to about 4-5cm before I asked for the epidural and luckily I got one because my doctor told me that was the only thing that saved me from getting a c-section. My body was going slow with progressing and it had been well over 24 hours since my water broke but Jackson wasn’t under any stress, nor was I so that’s why everything went for so long.

After receiving the epidural I finally got a few hours of sleep, which helped me to fully dilate by 4:00pm that afternoon.  I got to start pushing at 4:30 and Jackson was here at 5:03pm!  If you lost count that is a total of 33 ½ hours from the time my water broke til the time he was born.

Everything went great with him, he did have a bowel movement during the process so he had to go to NICU for a few hours after birth.  I finally got to really see and hold him after 9:00pm that night.  As soon as I got him in my arms I said “Hi, baby Jackson” and he opened one of his eyes and looked at me and smiled…..it was truly the best feeling in the entire world.  He’s my world and I’m so thankful for him and that everything went well.  We got home on Wednesday afternoon and everything is going great so far.  JC has been a really big help and my mom has stayed with us so I can get a little extra sleep.  Jackson is very alert and he seems to be loving his new home.

I just wanted to say thank you for everyone reading my blog every week and going on this incredible journey with me.  It has truly been amazing and there has been so many precious moments that I will never forget.  I know that one day Jackson and I will be looking back at all of my notes and I’m just so glad that I will have all these for him to have.  And when that day comes I just want to say….

Jackson,

I love you very much and I’m so thankful and proud to call you my son.  You are so amazing and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life watching you grow and learn and to one day have a family of your own.  I love you.  Forever and ever.

Love,

Mommy

Week #21 5/28/09

39 weeks, only 1 more to go…hopefully!

The big news since two weeks ago is that I’m officially on maternity leave now from work, mainly due to my high blood pressure.  We had another ultrasound last week to check my fluid level in my belly and it more than doubled within two weeks so that was great to hear.  We even found out that he has hair!  Now, how they know and or could tell is beyond me but we have a picture of it and it just looks like peach fuzz on there so we’re excited to see how much he does have and what color it is going to be.  And he is weighing in at 7 pounds 2 ounces, which is what I weighed when I was born.  JC was 7 pounds 13 ounces so it should be interesting to see if he is right on track with that or not.

It looks like I’m still right on track with my due date of June 5th but of course since I’m this far along it could be any day.

Just wanted to say a big thanks for continuing to read and hopefully by this time next week we’ll posting a picture of Jackson.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Week #19 5/14/09

37 weeks and we’re ready to go!  Well, at least JC and I are ready to go who knows when Jackson will be ready to see us.  Everything went well at my doctor’s appointment this week and we’re still on track along with the due date.  The only big thing happening is that my feet keep getting bigger and bigger by the day because of my swelling.  I can actually feel the fluid sloshing around whenever I tap my foot against something.  It’s gross, I know.

On a bright note I can actually see the light at the end of the tunnel now.  One of my mom’s friends at the school she works at had her baby this week.  I got even more excited when I found out because now I’m going to be next.  A special congratulations goes out to Holly, Sam and baby Samuel!

Hopefully we’ll have Jackson soon!  As always thanks for reading and hope everyone has a great week!

Week #18 5/7/09

Looks like I’m officially 9 months now!! WHOOO HOO!!! Believe it or not it has actually gone by pretty quickly and I feel like now its just creeping by waiting on his arrival.  The latest news is that I did have an ultrasound earlier this week.  At 35 ½ weeks Jackson weighed in at 6 pounds 11 ounces which I was thrilled to hear!  They even did some sort of test where they measure the development and their stress level and he got a perfect score.  My sister in law told me that could be a bad thing because if he’s too happy in there he won’t want to come out haha.  Some even better news is that he his head down!  We were a little nervous about that because he was breech at 28 weeks so I’m glad he was a good little guy and turned for me.

I’m attaching a picture of me at one of my baby showers with the way cute stork balloon that they got me and another of my baby belly at 36 weeks.

Sorry the blog isn’t very long this week, I’m pretty sure I’m in the nesting phase right now and if I don’t do some cleaning here pretty soon I might go nuts….

Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #17 4/30/09

35 weeks!  Big news this week is that baby Jackson has dropped!  I woke up Monday morning and I noticed that I could actually take a deep breath, and then I noticed that a shirt that I normally wear didn’t quite go over my belly anymore.  Quite a few people have noticed too so at least I know it’s not just my wishful thinking.

I had my family baby shower over the weekend and we got a lot of nice things.  My dad’s work even gave him a baby shower this week for items that they would need for their house, I thought it was awful sweet of them to do that.

We also went to a maternity fair and had a tour of the hospital.  It was the first time that I actually went up and saw the floor and an example of the room that I would be in for whenever the time comes.  I have to admit I got a little overwhelmed by it all.  I think up until now it was kind of like I had so many more weeks to go so my main concentration was that I was pregnant.  Now, it has sunk in that I’m actually going to have the baby and my pregnancy is almost done with.  After my momentary freak out on Sunday morning my mom came over and helped us finish getting Jackson’s room ready and got all of his laundry done.  So now I think I’ve gotten over the hill of I’m going to have the baby and when I do, everything is good to go so I don’t have to worry about everything not being done.

JC got his first experience with the car seat this week too.  Him and I were both under the impression that installing a car seat was an easy task, well after reading the instruction booklet, calling all of my family members that already had children, and about a hour later we finally gave in and went over to his sister’s house so she could put it in for us.  Now I know you’re probably thinking that it is easy, and it was-it was just that we couldn’t get it strapped in very tightly for some reason.  So we went over to his sister’s house and it took her about 30 minutes to figure it out also so we didn’t feel so bad.  JC even had a test run with it in the car on his work the following morning with slamming on his brakes and swerving, etc. and it didn’t come loose.
Be sure to read next week because we get to have an ultrasound on Monday so see how much Jackson weighs and to see if he is in position or not so I’m sure I’ll have some of his pictures on here.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #16 4/23/09

34 weeks!  Just wanted to say a quick apology for missing last week.  JC and I were both sick and I don’t think I realized I hadn’t even written my blog until the weekend.  At least I’ve remembered this week…

Since the last time I wrote I had my first my baby shower.  The ladies at work gave me a very nice shower and Jackson got a lot of nice things.  I have one coming up this weekend with my family and looking forward to that one.

Jackson’s room is almost complete.  We still need to get a changing pad and a few other odds and ends but it has came together rather easily.  My mom tells me there’s still a lot of items that we need like burp clothes, bibs, etc. that I had thought about at one point in time but I forgot all about that kind of stuff so we’re going to have to work on getting those things in the next few weeks.

I had a doctor appointment earlier this week and my new goal is to get through the next three weeks and then I’ll be good to go!  I never thought I was going to hear those words!  My doctor said at least I’ve gotten through the scary part and now Jackson is just getting fat so if I were to go into labor between now and then we wouldn’t have to worry as much which is great to hear.  I’ll get to have another ultrasound in about two weeks to check his weight and to see if he is still breached or not.  I still haven’t packed my overnight bag for the hospital yet so that is going to be my project for this weekend along with washing all of his new outfits.

I’ll include some baby belly pictures next week.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Week #15 4/9/09

It’s hard to believe that I’m already 8 months.  It seems like last week we were talking at Christmas dinner how I would have to switch spots at the table when Easter came around because I would be too big to squeeze into my spot.  It feels like my body is slowing down but yet everything around me is speeding up.

My blood pressure is creeping back up on me.  I’ve had to really take it easy for the past week or so.  I go for my 32 weeks check up on Monday so hopefully I’ll receive some good news then about how everything is progressing.

JC and I have some busy weekends ahead, of course this weekend is Easter, and then the next two are filled with baby showers, baby classes, and a maternity fair that I want to go to.  It should all be fun and exciting some I’m really looking forward to it all!

We had our breathing techniques class last night.  Luckily the instructor was very relaxed so I got to lay down the whole time, which was really nice.  I learned all of the hees and hoos with the breathing.  She even had us put a clothespin either on our finger, or our arm, and then our ear to resemble the contractions and have us breath through them.  I’m going to have to write everything down because I know once I get in there I won’t remember a thing.  And I was proud of myself because I didn’t get the giggles like I have done in the previous classes.

Jackson’s room is coming along nicely.  We have added a rocking chair and a dresser, which will also be used for a changing table.  The bassinet is all ready to go also.  I think we just need a few more finishing touches and we’ll be good to go.  I have a pile of clothes from my nephew and some from the teachers that my mom work with that I need to sort through and throw in the laundry so I’m thinking that’ll be my project for this weekend.

Until next time….

Hope everyone has a great Easter!

Week #14 4/2/09

31 weeks this week!  Not much has been going on, which is a good thing.  I’ve read in one of my books that the baby is now gaining up to ½ ounce a day and I’m really starting to feel it.  My mom had pretty bad back pain when she was pregnant with my brother and  I think I’ve inherited that trait from her.  It’s one of those no matter what I do I can’t get it to feel better kind of things.  At least I’m less than 10 weeks away now so I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I had my 30 week check up last week and everything is going well!  I even gained 3 pounds in two weeks, which is a major accomplishment considering it took me 28 weeks to gain 7.  It’s crazy to think I only have 2 more two week visits and then I start going weekly.

I’m including a picture of my week of my belly at 30 weeks.  I feel like I’m finally making some progress  : )

Hope everyone has a great week and thanks for reading!

Week #13 3/26/09

30 weeks!!!! I don’t know who is more excited, JC or me…he’s thinking that I have about 7 weeks left to go, I’m thinking maybe 8.  Either way I’m starting to get a little nervous about our very calm and quiet life going into an uproar once he’s born.   Don’t get me wrong it’ll be a good uproar, I just know it’ll take some time to get used to it.  At least it will be exciting.

So I mentioned last week that my belly couldn’t be more tighter if it tried, well I think because of all the tightness and for baby Jackson to have more room I’ve developed round ligament pain.  Anyone out there ever had this before?  For those of you who haven’t, it can be pretty painful at times.  The only thing I have found that really helps is laying down and not moving an inch.  Since I’m a worry wart at heart when the pains started in Tuesday afternoon at work, I though “O my gosh! I hope I’m not going into labor!” haha.  I think the thing I’m having the hardest time with is that since it’s my first pregnancy I don’t know what is normal and what isn’t.  Thankfully my doctor’s office has been very patient with me and has helped me out with all my aches and pains.

We got a cute little bookshelf for Jackson’s room this past weekend.  JC and I both went through all of our books from when we were little and have already filled up a shelf!  I’m sure Jackson won’t have a shortage of books anytime soon.

Well, I’ve got to stop talking to so I won’t be late for work.  Thanks for reading and hope everyone has a great week!

Week #12 3/19/09

I also had an ultrasound last week to check on Jackson’s growth.  I am a proud momma to report that he is weighing at 2 pounds and 11 ounces.  Everything with him is perfect other than the fact that he’s breached right now.  So it looks like I’ll get another ultrasound at 35 weeks to see if he has turned around.  I think it will be a nice preview to see what he looks like before the big day gets here.

Everything is else is going pretty well.  I’m still having some minor blood pressure issues but we’re keeping our fingers crossed that they only stay minor and don’t escalate into anything big.

The baby belly is definitely getting bigger these days and a whole lot tighter.  I guess it’s a combination of him growing and my muscles stretching.  It’s crazy though because just a month ago I had the real tight belly going on and I thought how on earth is it going to get any bigger….and then it did. I still have a few pre pregnancy shirts that I can still squeeze into a bit so that doesn’t make feel too bad about how things are progressing.  Speaking of which I think I’ll go on a shopping trip this weekend because of course I’ll have to get some short sleeve shirts and some Capri pants to wear on warm days : )

I’m including some pictures of the ultrasound this week.  The first one is his profile and the second is the 4-D of his face.  I think he looks like me, but I might be a little biased: )

Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #11 3/12/09

7 months!! WHOO HOO!!! It’s going to be a busy day too, I’ve got my glucose screening test this morning, my regular OB check up and an ultrasound!  I can’t wait to see our little guy up on the screen!  I’m sure he’ll be cute as ever : )

We’re going to get our registry done this weekend.  It’s a little bit overwhelming if you ask me because how am I supposed to know which bottles are the best or what kind of pacifier to get?  I’ve been told that some babies can be picky when it comes to those things so I don’t know if we should register for a couple of different ones or what.  Our big thing is when we see something, half the time we might not know what it is or what it does and if we really need it or not.  I’ve compiled a checklist from my mom and have gotten a few out of magazines so hopefully that will help out.  My baby showers have been planned for the end of April so that’s exciting.  I’m hoping Jackson will decide to stay in at least a week or two after my last shower so we can get everything ready to go.  We gave me sister-in-law a baby shower about three weeks before she was due and she actually gave birth the very next day.  Her husband had to go home while they were still in the hospital to sterilize bottles haha.

My blood pressure has been doing well for the past week.  Whoo hoo for that!  JC has still been doing all the housework and cooking dinner for me every night-I’m not going to lie-its been nice : )  I’m enjoying it because I know that when Jackson arrives it’s not going to be so calm anymore.

We had our first baby class last week.  It basically summed up everything from the first labor pains to bringing the baby home.  I was really tired that night and I ended up getting the giggles.  We had to watch a video of a live birth and apparently some of the soon to be mothers were pretty grossed out about the whole thing and I mainly got tickled at their reactions.  Some of it was pretty scary knowing that in a few months I’ll be going through all of it and I think JC thought I was freaking out a little bit (because of the giggles-I tend to laugh when I get nervous, well I laugh all the time) but anyways….we learned a lot of useful information.

Well, we’re off to the doctor.  I’ll have pictures posted next week!  Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #10 3/5/09

So I’ve had an eventful past few days, well not really eventful-just worrisome.  Since I wrote last, my ankles and feet have started swelling and my blood pressure started to rise.  I had to go into the doctor Friday afternoon and she put me on the dreaded bed rest for four days.  I think until you have been there and done that, you don’t really know what a struggle it is.  Sure I got to lay down on my left side for what seemed liked forever, but as a mother you don’t really rest because you’re worried about your little baby.  I know I can handle anything that comes my way I just don’t want Jackson to have a struggle at the beginning of his life.  It does give you a lot of time to think and put a lot of things into reality and I realized that I really only have about 12 weeks left and we’ll get to meet our little guy.  It’s exciting and worrisome all at the same time.

I come from a long line of “worry warts” and I can worry with the best of them.  I’ll hand it to JC though because he has really done a good job with trying to keep me from worrying.  He was an excellent husband this weekend (he always is though) because he did all of the cooking, the cleaning, the laundry, you name he did it for me.  I love you JC!

Here’s the good news, with all the thoughts and prayers that were sent my way my blood tests for pre-eclampsia came back well!  My doctor increased my blood pressure medicine so hopefully if I do get pre-eclampsia, it might keep it at bay for awhile.  I got to return to work today which was great to have something to distract me for awhile.  Hopefully everything will continue to go well until I see her on Friday afternoon.  Keep your fingers crossed!

JC and I are going to try to go to our first maternity class tonight, depending on how I’m feeling.  This one is just the tour of the hospital, etc.  I’m looking forward to it so at least I’ll have an idea of where I’ll be when the big day arrives!

Well, my times up and JC is making me go lay down on the couch and rest.  Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #9 2/26/09

I can’t believe I’m already 6 ½ months!  My belly is slowing getting bigger and bigger.  I’m getting a little nervous about all of the stretching going on.  The past couple of days my belly has gotten really tight like it can’t stretch any more….but I know it will somehow haha.

Our biggest project the past couple of weeks has been getting the nursery together.  We have decided on a Classic Pooh theme and it couldn’t be cuter!  I’m attaching some pictures for everyone to see : )  I think maybe the last big item we need to get in there is a changing table although I’m in debate about either getting one of those or getting a small dresser with a few drawers and putting the changing pad thing on top of that.  We’ll see what happens.  Speaking of decisions, JC and I have been trying to figure out what we need to register for and that’s no easy task especially with this being our first baby.  Our families have been very helpful with advice on items because Jackson will be the fourth great grandchild on my side of the family and he’ll be the second on his.  Hopefully we’ll have it all figured out soon.

I’ve gotten JC and I registered for all of our baby classes and they start soon!  We’re going to take a class about how to bath a baby, diaper a baby, feed the baby, etc which should be fun, especially for JC.  We’re also doing the hospital tour, infant CPR and a “great comforts” class for when I go into labor.  I’m interested to see how that one will bring me great comforts when those labor pains hit in.

Well, I overslept this morning (which is becoming a habit for me) and I’m still writing this, so I’m going to stop so I’m not late for work.  Hope everyone has a great week and as always thanks for reading!

Here’s my shout out for the week:  Hey to all the teachers at Hannah McClure Elementary in Winchester!

Week #8 2/19/09

I’m 25 weeks this week and the heartburn has officially set in and hopefully not for good.  It doesn’t matter what I eat or what I do I just have that gross, burning, unrelenting feeling in my chest.  I’ve been taking Tums without much help.  I’ve heard of the old wive’s tale that if you have a lot of heartburn then your baby will have a lot of hair…I’m hoping its true because I would love for little Jackson to have a head full of hair : )

I had a doctor’s appointment this week and I’m glad to report that everything is going great!  I’ve gained 2 more pounds and my belly is measuring right on target.  I get to have another ultrasound in about 3 weeks, which I’m super excited about it!  Of course, I’ll post the pictures.  My doctor informed me also that after my next one I’ll start going every 2 weeks, which completely threw me for a loop.  I just can’t believe that it’s getting that close now.

The nursery is slowly coming together.  JC and I (well I think mostly me wanting it haha) have decided to do a classic Winnie-the-Pooh theme for his room.  I’ve always loved Winnie-the-Pooh since I was little and I just couldn’t imagine his room not having that cute little bear in it.  We got some really cute sticker decals to put on the walls and we have found some really cute curtains.  JC’s plan is to have it put together in about 3 weeks, which should be really fun.

I’ve to make a special shout out this week to my Dad!  Hi Dad, I love you!  (I can’t leave my mom out either.)  I love you too Mom!

Hope everyone has a great week and keep voting for the cutest baby contest!

Week #7 2/12/09

Well I’ve made it to 6 months!  It’s hard to believe that 6 months have already passed although my body feels like it’s been much longer.  I think JC is getting a little nervous now, he is starting to read ahead on our weekly emails about how the baby is developing and how my body is changing and he as he told me the other night “It’s getting to be crunch time and things are going to get hectic soon!”  He’s a cutie.

Things have been going well in pregnancy land, although I’ve reverted back to my morning sickness.  Three days this week…but hopefully that will be all for awhile.  Jackson is supposed to be over a pound now and I can feel his weight gain for sure!  I mentioned to JC the other morning that it was the first morning where I truly felt pregnant.  The belly is sticking out now, I go through 4 or 5 shirts in the morning before work trying to find one to go over my belly, I’m getting out of breath going up stairs…but I’m trying not to complain because I know it will be all worth it in the end!

Here’s a craving update…chocolate milk and some fruity pebbles, although not together.  I just can’t get enough of them and when I’m not eating or drinking it, I’m thinking about it haha.

I have a Doctor’s appointment next week so my next post will include my details of that visit.  Just a normal one this time, weight, blood pressure, etc.  I’m mainly interested to see how my belly is measuring : )

Thanks to all who continue to read!  Hope everyone has a great week and Happy Valentine’s Day!

PS-Vote in the cutest baby contest!  All of them are cute as buttons!

Week #6 2/5/09

To start off with, I just want to say a quick “sorry” for missing the blog last week.  Between the ice storm and moving this past weekend I’ve been a little more tired than usual.  Speaking of moving, JC and I just made our 6th move this past weekend.  Surprisingly I haven’t gotten aggravated by the moves yet because all of our places have been new and exciting and plus this last time all I had to do was supervise.  I’m even more excited now because we’ll get to start decorating Jackson’s room and I’m sure that will be a lot of fun!  Oh and by the way, we got a crib!! It’s one of those neat 3-in-1 ones that will convert to a toddler bed and so forth.  I’m sure he’ll be cute as a button laying in it taking his naps : )

I am proud to say that my morning sickness is pretty much gone now (knock on wood).  I haven’t gotten sick in about two weeks, which is a major accomplishment!  I can even smell fish now without my stomach tossing over.  It seems like my tiredness is coming back though, the other night I came home and took a nap before dinner, was up for about a hour and then went back to bed and slept until the next morning.  I don’t mind be lazy but I feel like I have a lot of things to take care of but I’m just too tired to do them.  Most of the other moms I have spoken too say this will get better the further along I get and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it is true for me.

Well, my favorite TV shows are starting to come on so I think I might go prop up my feet and curl up with my cat…Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #4 1/22/2009

IT’S A BOY!!!  And let me tell you I was totally shocked!  I truly thought that the baby was going to be a girl, but as other mothers have told me you have a 50/50 shot of getting right so I don’t feel so bad for guessing it wrong.  I had my 20-week ultrasound last Friday and our little guy gladly cooperated.  Everything checked out great, although I have to go back so they can get a few more pictures of his heart because he was moving around too much.  Speaking of which, he’s really starting to get active.  I actually felt him on the outside of my belly with my hand the other morning, which was amazing.

JC and I have decided on a name…. it’s going to be Jackson Curtis Burton, the middle name is after his daddy (which his daddy is very proud about) and Jackson was the front runner from the very beginning.

Here’s a cute story for ya:  One of the first times that I really felt Jackson kicking, I was on my way to my parents house when Tom Petty’s Free Falling came on the radio.  A few days later I heard the song and he started kicking again.  I finally made the connection about two weeks ago at work when the song came on the radio and I started singing to it and Jackson started kicking up a storm.  I guess we have a rocker on our hands…

I’m including some of the ultrasound pictures.  The first ones are of his face and the other set is a profile shot and another picture of his cute little foot.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Week #3 1/15/2009

20 weeks this week! I can’t believe that I’m already half way there, seems like just yesterday I found out that I was pregnant.  It’s also crazy to think that we’re that much closer to meeting our little one, which by the way we find out tomorrow what it is!  JC and I are so excited to find out and both sets of grandparents are even coming to see our little one make his big screen debut.  We have a name picked out if it’s a girl, which is what we think it is, but if it’s a boy like everyone else in my family thinks it is we’ll have to go back to the drawing board.

My morning sickness is slowly going away and I’m starting to get a lot more energy now.  I still fall asleep on the couch about 8 every night, but at least I don’t feel like I’m going to fall out of my chair at work any more.

I had an unexpected visit to the doctor’s office earlier this week due to some minor issues but the good news is that I got to see a sneak peek of the little one.  We got a cute little picture of its feet and a picture of the profile.  I’m just glad there was only one set of legs in there and not two haha.  I’m attaching a picture because I just can’t resist on sharing the cuteness.

Well, you’ll definitely have tune in next week because we’ll have the big news of whether it’s a boy or girl!  Keep your fingers crossed that the little one cooperates!

Week #2  1/8/2009

19 weeks.  According to a website that I visit on a regular basis the baby is a size of a heirloom tomato, which is pretty crazy because not just 10 weeks ago it was a kidney bean.  Kudos to whoever invented the food versus baby scale not only can I see how big the baby is but I enjoy announcing what food the baby is for the following week.

The one major difference that I have noticed, other than a few stretch marks starting to form, is that when I was sitting at work the other day I found it kind of hard to bend over and tie my shoes.  At first, I thought it was my imagination but it was real, the belly is definitely getting there now.  I’ve noticed that a few of my favorite pre pregnancy t-shirts are starting to get a little snug.  I guess I have a good excuse to do some shopping : )

On a happy note, I’ve only gotten sick a few times this past week (knock on wood).  Let’s hope for a even better week next week….until then.

Week #1  1/1/2009

First off, I just want to say hi to all the Star listeners!  Secondly, I want to say a quick thank you to my husband, JC for having the terrific idea of having me do this, with this being our first pregnancy I’m excited to spread all of my news with anyone who will listen.   A quick introduction about me….my name is Niki, 23 years old, and I’m already a mother to our cat Charlie who just turned 1 in September.

JC and I found out we were expecting our little one on October 12.  We were kind of shocked at first, but really happy, so it took us about two weeks to tell our parents.  I think they are finally getting used to the idea and are excited about having a grandchild.  Now, my main conversations with my parents, especially my dad, are them trying to figure out what we are naming the baby.  It’s been fun to hear everyone’s picks as far as names go, but more on that later….

Today I’m officially 18 weeks, due date is June 5th, and my belly is starting to “pop out” so the ladies at work tell me.  Unfortunately I haven’t been one of the lucky ones to breeze through the pregnancy without any morning sickness.  Mine hit in about 6 weeks and still hasn’t gone away yet, but I’m slowly improving.  I don’t know why they call it morning sickness when it lasts all day long.  At my last doctor’s appointment I still hadn’t gained any weight yet so I told JC that I was going to start eating ice cream every night so I can put on at least 1 pound or so before my next doctor’s appointment, which is January 16, hopefully the baby will cooperate and we will get to find out what it is!

I’m including some pictures, one is our little one at 9 weeks old and the other is my baby belly at 15 weeks.  Hope everyone has a happy new year!

Music to get you through the night!
